If you’re hitting Mt Hutt’s slopes this winter, you’re likely to pass through or spend a night in the cute town of Methven. In that case make sure you pop into Café Primo e Secundo, whether it’s for breakfast before a day of skiing or for a scone and cuppa later in the day.
Entering Methven’s quirkiest café, you’ll be greeted by soft tunes, the scent of cooking, a big smile and a sign telling you that everything in the café is for sale. Take your pick from scrumptious cabinet food or the daily blackboard menu and choose one of the many corners jam-packed with antique furniture, fabrics, china and more. If you have special dietary requirements the team is happy to whip you up something to suit. The lasagne, soups and other goodies are presented lovely and taste just as good! And should you happen to love the chair you’re sitting on, or should the tea cosies on the window sill take your fancy, simply buy them to take home! In Café Primo e Secundo everything is for sale and so the place is always filled with people browsing the random collection of bits and pieces. Whether it’s the old chest in the corner, the bronze vases next to the wooden chess set or the Dutch clogs, it’s just as hard to resist the purchase of one of the pre-loved items as it is to resist the delicious chocolate muffins!
If you’re up for an extra special café experience, you’ll find Café Primo e Secundo in 38 McMillan Street, Methven, and they are open from 7am to 7pm. Just don’t forget to bring lots of time!
