Experience the legend! The three main ski areas in the North Island are located on one awe-inspiring volcanic mountain, Mount Ruapehu. While the North Island might be best known for beaches, rainforests and sophisticated cities, at its heart is a high-altitude volcanic plateau. Where else in the world can you ski an active volcano? To the west, on Mount Taranaki, is another ski area, Manganui, where the terrain makes for outstanding snowboarding.

Auckland The biggest and most cosmopolitan city in the nation, Auckland is situated between sparkling harbours and wrapped around rolling volcanic hills.

Central North Island A totally unique place to ski or board, the central North Island is shaped by thousands of years of volcanic activity.

Taranaki The lush, green region on the west coast of the North Island is dominated by Mount Taranaki (previously known as Mount Egmont), a perfect cone-shaped mountain that bears an uncanny resemblance to Japan’s Mount Fuji.
